Back on the paddleboards

Back on (the SUP) board

The 2026 Stand Up Paddleboard season has started! As always, the British weather is a little unpredictable! But so far we have managed to run all but one of the classes and usually have a little dip in the water afterwards - especially delicious through the heatwaves!

Thursday evenings' sunset SUP yoga lately have been joyously sultry, and fingers crossed we get a lot more glorious evenings. The water has reached 19/20 degrees centigrade and although it can drop back (or increase) depending on what the weather does (!), it is still inviting for those who do like to dip in their toes, or more ;) Thursday evening session now starts at 6.30pm.

When the heat came the SUP yogis were visibly less worried about falling in (hoping to splash down! ) so were up for trying funkier things. I always leave a little time for play towards the end, so those desperate for an arm balance or inversion can have a go. But here's the thing, the more relaxed you are on board, the easier it is to balance, depend into he poses and thus less likely to fall in! There are always options, some people just want to try a different twist or more restorative pose!

SUP yoga is great fun, perfect for improving balance and core and it is so so lovely to be outside. The sounds of birdsong and gentle splashes make a gorgeous soundscape for practice and Savasana, and the views of the reservoir all around makes the yoga all the more special, if disconcerting when you realise the backdrop has subtly shifted every time you get into dog or look up! You can really focus on your breath and finding peace.

If you're wondering what to wear, shorts or leggings, and vest or light long sleeved top. Wear your swim things underneath in case you want to get in after, some people practise in their swim things alone if it's a sunny evening! We provide long sleeved waterproof wind jackets if you want them in windy /cooler weather. Always bring a change of clothes and towel in case of wobbles and splashes or splashdowns, even/especially on hot days as the sun will have gone down by the time you get off and packed up and in he warmth you honestly will want to get in!

The very best bit about SUP yoga? The smiling faces!
