What's new? Summer Solstice 108

Celebrate the Summer Solstice by creating your own inner solar source of heat and spreading warmth through the community. Completing (or trying to get through) 108 Sun Salutations is a traditional way to mark Midsummer, and it's especially potent when the benefits of your efforts are for others. London yogis near Hackney come and join a 108 Sun Salutations event this Sunday, June 23rd, at St Matthias Church, Butterfield Green, N16. Proceeds all go to Hackney MIND. There will be different teachers switching in to keep it fresh and stop you from flagging - though if you need to rest and sit some out, that is fine too ;)

For more information see the Facebook page. Or email yogaforhackneymind@gmail.com

Some of the entry donations have been put to good use already,

Mums and toddler yoga *(carers/dads welcome)
When is the right time to introduce your kids to yoga? ASAP - get them to throw a yoga pose before they can even walk!  Monday afternoon Mum and toddler's yoga class at Yoga Junction, (Crouch End, London N8) is a follow on to the regular mums and babies classes. They are relaxed and fun, with yoga games, songs and rhymes thrown into the mix, as well as postures to suit mum and little ones. Yoga for mums and tots (carers and dads welcome) is a shared exploration of yoga — movements, breath work and relaxation techniques. It will help improve posture, muscular support and boost energy levels and confidence for mum. While yoga helps to stimulate your little one’s emotional, physical and motor development. The format is free flowing and flexible to suit age range of tots present each week and the needs of mum. For crawling babies to toddlers (up to age 3).

Pregnancy classes
Just because you are expecting a baby does not mean you have to miss out on your yoga! Whether you are new to yoga or have/had a yoga practice before pregnancy, you will enjoy a creative combination of yoga postures, breath work and relaxation technique to help keep you energised, yet calm. Pregnancy yoga is designed to help alleviate some of the common discomforts that can creep in during pregnancy, with tips for breathing and relaxation techniques and postures useful in labour, as well as throughout pregnancy. My pre-natal yoga classes are now Monday afternoons at 2.15pm at Yoga Junction, Crouch End, N8. It's the perfect way to start the week. Followed by Mums and babies - crawling to 3 years old.

Looking at life from another angle
I love being upside down, it's instantly revitalising - all that fresh blood and oxygen travelling around the body! An inversion can be lying with your feet up (Vipariti Karani) or dangling from a rope or someone's feet (as in acro yoga), or just being in a standing forward bend. Though of course it can also mean handstands, headstands and arm balances. Want to find out more? I have an inversions workshop at Yoga Junction on the 28th of Jan. Come along - all levels welcome. See the workshop page for more details.
